Chairman’s Chat Autumn Edition
I hope you all had a lovely summer despite it feeling like a distant memory with the rain we’ve had over the last few weeks.
We are now in the full throes of preparations with the work of both our torch and firework teams starting to gather momentum as we head closer to the big night.
Before we reach said big night on 1st November, we hold our Badge Night in the Crown on Friday 3rd October. This is where you can meet our members, renew your membership or vice presidents, purchase merchandise or just find out what the craziness is all about!! We will be joined by Skull Drummery and there will also be the judging of the adult fancy dress. Do come along and say hello and join us for a drink or two from 7.30pm.
If you are unable to make Badge Night, do come along to Badge Morning in the Community Centre on 11th October from 9am until 12pm where breakfast baps and homemade cakes will be available, you will be able to purchase merchandise and, if you haven’t already done so, renew your membership or vice presidents.
Please note that you need to be a fully paid up member to take part in any preparations or attend any outmeetings.
Also, do look out for our Bonfire Night programme. This contains all the information regarding the night. The collating of the programme takes a lot of hard work and is a significant fundraiser for the society. As with previous years, we will NOT be providing any information regarding timings online so please do purchase a programme from the local shops or pubs.
I look forward to seeing you at Badge Night.

Some of us at NBS have Bonfire in our blood- pushed in prams through torchlit processions before we could walk! I was born Sussex, but it wasn’t until we moved to Newick that my own Bonfire journey began. It started with sewing costumes for my girls and rattling collection buckets, in support of local charities and good causes.
So I encourage you all to come to Badge Night or Badge morning (or both) to support NBS, find out more, become a member and continue or start your own Bonfire story
Now, let’s hear from a few of our local good causes that are involved in our street collection
1 – St Mary’s Church, Newick
We wanted to say a huge thank you to NBS for their donations. Your generosity enabled us to support a young person to attend our MayCamp weekend, which they wouldn’t have been able to do otherwise. A great time was had by all 38 young people we took from Newick & Chailey.
The donation towards the pastoral care team has enabled them to reach out to individuals and families in various ways of financial and practical support.
Thank you NBS for all you do.
With much love from St Mary’s Church, Newick
2 – Newick & Chailey Brownies
We wanted to say thank you so much for the generous donation to Newick & Chailey Brownies from the Bonfire collection. We used it for an activity day at Blacklands farm, the girls loved the crate challenge and climbing.
3 – Lewes Windmill Rangers
Thank you so much to Newick Bonfire for their generous donation. Lewes Windmill Rangers used it towards funding an international trip to Switzerland, the Rangers had an amazing time and created memories that will last a lifetime, thank you again.
If you would like to be involved with shaking a bucket at Newick Bonfire, or you would like to find out more …. then please email me at nbsstreetcollection@hotmail.com

Summer Edition
Summer is in full swing and I hope you are enjoying this glorious weather.
The summer is always a sign that the bonfire season is just around the corner! Whilst we tend to think of the season being in October and November, our hard working members start our night’s preparation mid to the end of August.
We have a couple of events to look forward too before then starting with the Fete on 13 July. This takes place at the Recreation Ground from 12pm onwards.
There is so much to do at the Fete which includes a children’s fun fair, vintage tractors, stalls, live music, tug of war, refreshments and lots more! If any members are able to help on the day even if for a short period, please contact Jen on 07581001936.
Everything crossed that the weather fairies are kind and we have a glorious day!
Please do keep an eye on our socials for more details on the above events as well as future events too.
Enjoy the rest of the summer and hopefully see you at the Fete!

Newick Bonfire Society is proud that 100% of the money collected in the street collection buckets on Newick Bonfire night is donated to local charities and good causes! Over the last 10 years alone, this equates to just over £ 35,000 ! 🎉
In this edition, we say thank you from Chailey Heritage Foundation
“Your donations have helped change a child’s life. Chailey Heritage foundation is your local charity, here for children and young people living with complex disabilities. Your donations have helped more children like Malachi to take their first steps, or to whizz around the playground, to communicate with their loved ones and to simply enjoy being a child.
At Chailey Heritage, we believe every young person — no matter the challenges they face — deserves the chance to grow, to choose, and to thrive. Empowering independence and nurturing possibility is at the heart of everything we do.
It can feel overwhelming and isolating for a family living with complex disabilities. Our outstanding school, welcoming residential homes and bustling centre create a thriving community of support for children and their families.
Thank you for being the difference and changing a child’s life.”
